Beer of the Weekend #889: ConFlix of Interest
Guess what? I did not feel like filling my growler this weekend.
Though my effort to drink fresh (hopefully) beer from a growler every weekend is well intentioned, it’s not as convenient as grabbing a pack of canned or bottled brew from the beer aisle at the store. So the beer this weekend comes from a can: ConFlix of Interest, brewed by the Confluence Brewing Company of Des Moines, Iowa, in collaboration with Des Moines’s Flix Brewhouse.
The color is lightly hazy, golden amber. A finger of dense, beige, buttery head leaves an even skim and collar of foam.
The aroma is intriguing; it is a mix of sweetness, spice, and malt. It also smells like my armpits after a long, sweaty day. It is spicy more than anything and has a light touch of lemon. Cereal malt is also present; it is reminiscent of Cheerios. There is a little sweetness, so I suppose that’s the honey.
The flavor is also intriguing. It has been a long time since I drank a Belgian-style beer, so it is an unfamiliar experience. Honey sweetness is present and so is the cereal malt, but it is carried by the spice and its bite. The beer’s description mentions it being “the perfect refreshment for your Des Moines Beer Week.” I don’t think so; it’s definitely not the first beer I would drink, and it is not refreshing.
