Beer of the Weekend #1,061: No More Tears

Happy new year!

The last beer of the weekend of 2023 was No More Tears, brewed by the Lake Time Brewery of Clear Lake, Iowa.

No More Tears

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “CANNED ON 11/29/23” is printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Poured into a snifter. The color is opaque black. A finger of dense, buttery, bubble-spotted, dark tan head leaves a spotted and bubbly skim. It is a beautiful beer. The head is gorgeous.

Smell: Deep, dark, and syrupy. Not very roasted, at least coffee-like roast. There is a lot of dark chocolate. A touch of roast comes through, though. There are also hints of dark fruit and molasses.

Taste: Dark and warming. It has a boozy touch that provides a slight sting with each sip. However, it fades as the taste buds adjust. There are flavors of dark chocolate and dark esters, though nothing stands out. It is slightly smoky. The finish is dry and leaves a roasted bitterness coating the taste buds. It is a good sipper.

Fun facts about No More Tears:

• Style: Imperial stout.

• Price: $13.99 for a four-pack of 12-ounce cans at John’s Grocery in Iowa City.

• Alcohol content: 11.6 percent ABV.

• Here is the description via the brewery website and can:

This Imperial Stout is the stairway to darkness – a stout so dark, there’s no way you can see through it. Its big, robust flavor seeths of rich chocolate & biscuit – but be sure to close your eyes to feel its dangerously smooth finish. As each sip passes & night closes in, the stout itself will not last. Only a levee of tears knowing it won’t come back.

Seeths should be seethes.

• Much like I am a sucker for beer–radio station collabs, I am a sucker for beers with the same name as rock songs. I saw this pack of No More Tears and immediately thought of the Ozzy Osbourne song:

Somebody at Lake Time has to be an Ozzy fan. (“No More Tears” is one of the songs I remember playing a lot on KRNA when I started getting into hard rock.)

The Quiet Man’s grade: A-.
