Beer of the Weekend #778: Bubbler
Another one of the beers chillin’ in my fridge is Bubbler, brewed by the New Glarus Brewing Company of New Glarus, Wisconsin.
The color is bright, cloudy, golden straw. Two fingers of dense, shiny head settles slowly and evenly. The aroma is wheaty, spicy, yeasty, and enticing. Clove spice is most prominent. Not much fruit is evident at first, but a scent of banana emerges and complements the spice. There are also scents of apple, yeast, and light zest. The first sip elicits a “Hmm…” It is reminiscent of a run-of-the-mill American wheat — albeit much spicier. Besides the clove spice are flavors of banana, a touch of apple, wheat, light bubblegum, and yeast. The clove spice lingers on the taste buds. There is some light zest, too.
Fun facts about Bubbler:
• Style: New Glarus calls it “Hefeweiss.”
• Price: Either $9.39 or $11.29 per six-pack at the Citgo–Southwest Mart in Hazel Green, Wisconsin. Along with the sixer, I bought a large bottle of another New Glarus beer and both are labeled “BEER” on the receipt, so I’m not sure which is which. I want to say the sixer cost $11.29 but I’m not sure.
• Alcohol content: Unlisted.
• The beer’s description beings like this:
Bubbler apparently pays homage to the first drinking fountains in the United States, which according to Wikipedia were manufactured in Kohler, Wisconsin.
The Quiet Man’s grade: C+/B-.

Suits stride, Toes skip, Heels click staccato expedition rhythms. Labor and Workers and Shoppers alike paused to share Downtown Bubblers on Wisconsin blocks.
