Beer of the Weekend #775: Sierra Nevada Dunkelweizen Bock
During halftime of the NBA Finals last night I cracked open a treat I got from J-Rod: Dunkelweizen Bock, brewed by the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company of Chico, California.
The color is cloudy, deep caramel brown. Two fingers of dense, shiny, frothy head is spotted with a few bubbles and dissipates evenly. Banana is noticeable immediately after popping the cap. Banana is the most prominent aroma and is accompanied by clove, bubblegum, and a touch of apple. Toasted malt begins to emerge as the beer warms. The flavor is toastier than the aroma, but banana, bubblegum, and clove spice are still noticeable. It is really toasty, actually, for a short time. After it has warmed, its dunkelbock characters become much more prominent with a touch of a boozy, dark fruit. It is wheaty and yeasty, and the mouthfeel is full and light. The label description mentions molasses, and there is a touch of it.
