Beer of the Weekend #689: Yazoo Pale Ale
This is the opening weekend for the Canadian Football League. Though it is a little different — bigger field, three downs instead of four, and unlimited pre-snap motion — it’s football!
The beer of the weekend is the other Nashville beer that Bobblehead bought me: Yazoo Pale Ale, brewed by the Yazoo Brewing Company of Nashville, Tennessee.
Pours a medium, clear, golden amber into a pint glass. A finger and a half of eggshell-colored, buttery, dense head dissipates slowly, leaving spots of foam stuck to the side of the glass. The aroma is faint but astringent, earthy/arboreal hops are most noticeable. There are also touches of citrus and tropical fruit, mostly grapefruit, kiwi, pineapple, and mango. Candy caramel is also noticeable. It’s flavorful, smooth, and a little bitter. It is malty up front with caramel and some toasted malt, earthy and arboreal hops provide bitterness and flavor, and a little citrus and tropical fruit make it interesting.

•One other thing Bobblehead bought me was a copy of the Chattanooga Times Free Press. Not only do I like newspaper from faraway places, the Chattanooga Times Free Press is unique because it is the only newspaper in the country with two different editorial pages.
The Times Free Press was formed in 1999 when Chattanooga’s two rival newspapers, the Times and Free Press, merged. The Times had a liberal editorial page and the Free Press had a conservative editorial page, so the decision was made to keep both. Fittingly, the Times’ page is on the left and the Free Press’ is on the right. Note the “Bible Wisdom” feature on bottom right of the Free Press page. (Yeah, it’s not the sharpest picture. At some point I should probably get a new camera.)
