Beer of the Weekend #687: Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale
Late last month — May 29, to be exact — I tried Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale, brewed by the Lagunitas Brewing Company of Petaluma, California.
Needless to say, I have been so busy that I forgot about posting my review.
Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale pours a medium amber/bronze into a pint glass. An overly aggressive pour produces three fingers of dense, off-white head with an amber tint, which dissipates slowly and leaves a little lacing. The aroma is big and citrusy with a lot of tropical fruit. Grapefruit, tangerine, kiwi, mango, a touch of pineapple, caramel, and a little unspecified fruit. The flavor is sharp and bitter with flavors of caramel, toasted malt, grapefruit, astringent and citrus-like bitterness, and alcohol. It is big and bold but the gravity is too high for my preference. The bitterness fades and it becomes more palatable after it has warmed.
