Beer of the Weekend #614: Yeti Imperial Stout
The beer of the weekend is something I have been very eager to try — and was conveniently included in a custom, birthday sixer given to me by The Loud Sister and J-Rod: Yeti Imperial Stout, brewed by the Great Divide Brewing Company of Denver, Colorado.
Serving type: 12-ounce bottle. The “BOTTLED ON” date printed on the label is “SEP 05 2014.”
Appearance: Pours a chocolate syrup, opaque black into a tulip glass. Two fingers of very dense, brown — yes, brown — head, which looks a little like chocolate mousse, dissipates slowly, leaving a lot of lacing stuck to the glass.
Smell: Very chocolaty with a hint of roasted malt and booze. Dark chocolate, black licorice, dark fruit, molasses, a little roasted malt, and an ever-present touch of booze.
Taste: The mouthfeel is full, velvety, heavy, and rich with flavor. Much like the aroma, a touch of alcohol is ever-present. It is not overpowering, though. Flavors of roasted dark chocolate, molasses, black licorice, and a little dark fruit. Each sip coats the back of the tongue with a lingering bitterness.
Drinkability: It is smooth and tasty. The aroma and flavor profiles are very dark and heavy. However, it does not blow me away. I’m sorry, but it doesn’t. This is a relatively fresh bottle, so I bet the flavors would mature very well with a little age.
