Beer of the Weekend #564: pseudoSue
The beer tonight has become a Hawkeye State legend: pseudoSue, brewed by the Toppling Goliath Brewing Company of Decorah, Iowa.
Serving type: 22-ounce bottle. No freshness date.
Appearance: Poured into a pint glass. The color is light, golden-amber. A finger of beige-colored, dense, buttery head dissipates slowly and leaves an even skim with a few bubbles and a ring around the edge.
Smell: The hop citrus is immediately noticeable after popping the cap and it lures you in. Oh… Orgasmic. Lots of sticky, tropical, grapefruit and mango goodness. There is also orange and a good dose of pine.
Taste: Mmm… Sticky sweet and zesty from the citrus, but malts and caramel are also noticeable. Grapefruit, mango, orange, gritty hops, pine. The alcohol provides a noticeable sting and intermingles with the grittiness, but it thankfully fades as the beer warms. At that point the citrus really starts to shine.
Drinkability: This is good stuff. Beautifully citrusy.
