Beer of the Weekend #553: Indio
The beer tonight is one of the two remaining brews from the San Antonio custom sixer my cousin gave me and is a little south-of-the-border flavor: Indio, brewed by Cervecería Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma, S.A. de C.V. of Monterrey, Mexico.
Serving type: 12-ounce bottle. A few codes are printed on the bottle but there is no discernable freshness date.
Appearance: Poured into a pint glass. The color is light to medium brown. A finger of light tan, fizzy head dissipates very quickly. A ring of foam remains but that also vanishes after a minute.
Smell: Caramel, toffee, toasted malts, some adjuncts, too. Simple and clean. As it warms it also offers brown sugar and light floral hops. There is also a hint of rye spice.
Taste: Light and watered down. The flavors are very muted but tasty nonetheless. Caramel, toasted malts, toffee, brown sugar, floral hops, and barnyard grassiness. There is also a touch of spice, probably a little rye.
Drinkability: Though light, it is tasty and unpretentious.
Fun facts about Indio:
-Style: The beer is classified on BA as a märzen, but it’s not.
-Price: Haulin’ furniture.
-Alcohol content: 4.5 percent ABV.
The Quiet Man’s grade: C.
