Football!

Oh. My. Goodness.

If you did not stay up to watch the Ole Miss–Vanderbilt game last night, you missed one hell of a finish — and also an energizing way to kick off the college football season.

Down 32-28 in the final two minutes, the Commodores were confronted with a fourth-and-eighteen. Wide receiver Jordan Matthews, who had been puking on the field and taken to the sideline earlier in the drive (Joe Tessitore and Matt Millen assumed he had a concussion), caught a 42-yard pass to keep hope alive. On the next play, Vandy took the lead with a 34-yard touchdown pass. On the ensuing possession, less than thirty seconds after the Commodores went ahead, Jeff Scott busted a 75-yard touchdown run to put Ole Miss up for good. (I think spelling yardages looks extremely awkward: forty-two-yard, thirty-four-yard, seventy-five-yard. I may make an exception to that Chicago style.)

Woo!
