2011 IHSAA Football, Week 5

I am not sure what to write tonight. Basically, I stayed in. City High played at Kennedy last night and there were no local games of interest tonight. Being in Chicago all week, I was totally out of the loop and had no clue what was going on, so it was nice to stay home and get settled and ready for tomorrow’s Hawkeye game.

My old man watched the Cedar Falls-Xavier game on TV. It was a battle in the first half, but Cedar Falls eventually pulled away, which was a little shocking to me. As I mentioned last year, Cedar Falls plays in the mythical Highway 20 Conference and has almost no competition. Xavier should have been stout, but I guess Cedar Falls is for real.

I am watching KCRG’s famed Friday Night Lights highlight show and feel a little bummed I missed the action tonight. It was chilly and clear — perfect football weather. (Vinton-Shellsburg looks like they have old Iowa jerseys.) In the clips of cheering fans, people are wearing jackets, jeans, and even stocking hats. Fittingly, today was the first day of fall, which adds to my bummedness. I could have celebrated the first day of fall with the perfect fall sport. I will make amends next week.
