The best street name ever

Pure Luck, the awesome vegan restaurant I ate at while in LA on Saturday, is just north of Melrose on Heliotrope Drive.

Seriously: Heliotrope is the best street name — ever. At least I think so.

I don’t know why it tickles me. I was introduced to Pure Luck by Zee German and his Frau, and was not only amazed by the jackfruit burritos, but I was entranced by the street name Pure Luck called home as well.

Believe me, though, the awesomeness of the street name and Pure Luck make up for the general condition of the houses on the street. It’s not a pretty neighborhood; it’s very typical in that poorly-kept and depressed LA way. Zee German told me the area is predominantly Ukrainian. When we walked down the street for my first visit to Pure Luck he told me, “We always see dirty Ukrainians wearing wife beaters and Adidas flip flops with socks — typical Eastern European style — yelling ‘FUCK!’”
