A 40-year building ban on the Navajo reservation was lifted in 2006, paving the way for tribal members who live there to improve their third world like living conditions they've had to endure. Vague real estate law in Russia is at the center of a dispute between the city government in Moscow and the residents of a Soviet-era gardening collective: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/09/world/europe/09land.html?_r=1. According to the article, Russians can buy houses, but not the land they're built on. Apparently they forgot about the land issue when property laws were developed at the fall of communism.
Thoughtful blog post, though not totally enlightening until the end, about the health care debate from Mark Mardell, the BBC's North America editor: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/markmardell/2009/11/the_hard_fact_of_healthcare_co.html.
