Beer of the Weekend #1,171: Walk the Plank

The beer of the weekend last weekend was Walk the Plank, brewed by the Confluence Brewing Company of Des Moines, Iowa.

Walk the Plank

Serving type: 16-ounce can. “CANNED ON SEP/08/26” was printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Poured into a nonic pint glass. The color was a solid and beautiful medium caramel. A fluffy, airy, bubbly head settled slowly.

Smell: Pretty simple but enticing. Caramel, lightly toasted malt, biscuit, floral hops, light grapefruit citrus, honey, and a touch of orange.

Taste: Smooth, tasty, and bitter. Caramel, lightly toasted malt, biscuit, light grapefruit, and a pleasant and lingering bite. There is a fleeting touch of cherry licorice and a little bit of honey. It is good and bitter; it really works the taste buds. It looks, smells, and tastes like what I would expect at an English pub (not that I would actually know since I have never been to England, but this is what I image the experience is like).

Fun facts about Walk the Plank:

• Style: English-style IPA.

• Price: $11.99 for a 4-pack of 16-ounce cans at John’s Grocery in Iowa City.

• Alcohol content: 6 percent ABV.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B+
