Beer of the Weekend #1,161: Venture Pils
The beer of the weekend last weekend was a tasty little something I picked up while camping in the middle of Lake Superior: Venture Pils, brewed by the Bent Paddle Brewing Company of Duluth, Minnesota.
Serving type: 12-ounce can. “042926” was printed on the bottom.
Appearance: Poured a light gold color into a pilsner glass. A bubbly, off-white, buttery, dense head popped away evenly.
Smell: Herbal and sharp. Enticing! There was a lot of malt and spice as well as a touch of zest. It smelled like a pilsner.
Taste: It tasted like a pilsner, too! It mostly mirrored the aroma. Sharp and earthy, herbal, with a nice bite of spice. Light malt and a lot of earthy spice accentuated by a touch of zest. Easy drinking and very tasty.
Fun facts about Venture Pils:
• Style: Pilsner.
• Price: $14.69 for a sixer of 12-ounce cans at Darling’s Grocery in La Pointe, Wisconsin.
• Alcohol content: 5 percent ABV.
• IBU: 38.
• I really need to work on distinguishing the difference between earthy and floral hops.
• So, I was not camping in the middle of Lake Superior but on an island in Lake Superior: Madeline Island. It was a nice little place, a nice getaway. The Lake Superior region has become a go-to vacation destination.
The Quiet Man’s grade: A.
