Beer of the Weekend #1,139: Eastside Dark

The beer of the weekend was the last of my recent haul from the Badger State: Eastside Dark, brewed by the Lakefront Brewery of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Eastside Dark

Serving type: 12-ounce can. “BB20FEB2026” was printed on the bottom of the can.

Appearance: Poured into a pilsner glass. The color was dark brown. A dense, bubbly, buttery, tan-colored head left an even skim.

Smell: Very toasty. Toasted bread, toffee, chocolate, and dark fruit. It was somewhat muted.

Taste: Toasty and dark. Toffee, chocolate, caramel, and dark fruit. It was not too sweet but also not bitter. It was tasty and pleasing.

Fun facts about Eastside Dark:

• Style: The beer’s webpage calls it “Bavarian dark lager” and “Bohemian-style dark lager.” Aren’t Bavaria and Bohemia two different places? One is German and the other Czech? Anyway, it’s dark lager.

• Price: $8.99 for a 6-pack of 12-ounce cans from the Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly in Port Washington, Wisconsin.

• Alcohol content: 5.6 percent ABV.

• IBU: 21.

The Quiet Man’s grade: B.
