Good Tunes: Shaggy, 'Boombastic'

To complement my summer of 1995 retrospective (which I need to get working on), I am using Good Tunes to highlight the sounds of that summer. I was obsessed with the radio and music back then, and it was a great summer for both.

First up is Shaggy’s “Boombastic.” Released on June 5, 1995, it was one of those inescapable tunes in heavy rotation. It makes me think of lounging at the City Park pool and drives around Iowa City with our summer babysitter. She had a green Ford Tempo (I think it was a coupe) and the radio was always tuned to the local Top 40 station, the incomparable Q103. Many of the songs I remember from that summer bring to mind the green color of her car.
