Beer of the Weekend #844: Sea Rose
The beer of the weekend is Sea Rose, brewed by the Ballast Point Brewing Company of San Diego, California.
The color is solid gold with a hint of red. A finger and a half of beige head leaves a skim and ring around the edge. The aroma is fruity and tart with a whole lot o’ cherry, much as the name promises. That’s about it, unfortunately. The flavor is the same: tart cherry dominates. The mouthfeel is soft. It reminds me of a cherry beer brewed by New Glarus, but much less tart and insanely cherry. The name of this beer says it all.
Fun facts about Sea Rose:
• Style: The brewery calls it “tart cherry wheat ale.”
• Price: $9.99 for a six-pack of 12-ounce bottles at the Drug Town at First and Rochester in Iowa City.
• Alcohol content: 4 percent ABV.
• IBU: 8.
The Quiet Man’s grade: C.
