Beer of the Weekend #815: Bulltown
I took a trip to Kalona yesterday to filled my growler with Bulltown, brewed by the Kalona Brewing Company of Kalona, Iowa.
The color is deep mahogany. Though it dissipated before I could take a picture, a half-finger of light tan, dense, buttery head develops. The aroma is deep and toasty with inviting scents of caramel, chocolate, molasses, and dark fruit. It is also nutty and has a burnt sugar scent. The flavor mostly mirrors the aroma with caramel, chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, and dark fruit.
Fun facts about Bulltown:
• Style: Brown ale.
• Price: $14 for a 64-ounce growler fill at the Kalona Brewing Company in Kalona.
• Alcohol content: 6.2 percent ABV.
• Here is info about the beer’s name from the brewery’s website:
• Bulltown is only available on tap in February.
The Quiet Man’s grade: B.

In the mid 1800's our town was called "Bulltown." In 1879 the name was changed to Kalona, the name of the prize sire bull belonging to Mr. John G Myer. We like to think of this brown ale as our prize bull.
