Beer of the Weekend #794: Quantum Spin

Unwilling to head to Coralville or Solon to fill my growler — I did not feel like dealing with game day eve craziness — I rode my bike to the Iowa City Brewlab and got 64-ounces of Quantum Spin.

The color is cloudy, deep caramel. About a finger of shiny, tan, bubbly head leaves a skim and ring around the edge. The aroma is fruity and very reminiscent of a hefe. Banana, apple, clove, wheat, and yeast. There is also a weird scent that reminds me of the stale, compacted dust that comes out of a vacuum cleaner when emptied. It fades, thankfully. The flavor has something for everyone — yeast, esters, malt, and hops. It is a pleasing blend with flavors of caramel, clove spice, banana, and light apple. The banana character is green but it is not distracting or overwhelming.

• Price: $16 for a 64-ounce growler fill.
