Beer of the Weekend #704: The Lawn Ranger Cream Ale
The Lone Star State beer tonight is The Lawn Ranger Cream Ale, brewed by the Cedar Creek Brewery of Seven Points, Texas.
A lover of both beer and lawn mowing, I guess I’m a sucker for a lawn mowing-themed beer.
The Lawn Ranger pours a lightly hazy, golden straw into a pint glass. A finger of off-white head leaves a skim and ring around the edge. The first whiff reminds me of the cheap Dutch lagers sold at Trader Joe’s. There are scents of light lemon citrus, bready pale malt, some corn adjunct, and that distinctive cream ale character. (I am not sure how to describe it or what creates it. Would it be the lager yeast? I’m not sure.) The flavor is light and creamy with light lemon citrus, bready pale malt, a bitterness that lingers on the taste buds after each sip, and a touch of strawberry. The description on the can says the beer is brewed with oats and rye, and there is a touch of rye spice. (The oats, I assume, contribute to the beer’s creaminess.)
