Beer of the Weekend #657: Deviant Dale's IPA

The beer of the weekend is from a newcomer to the Iowa beer market: Deviant Dale’s IPA, brewed by the Oskar Blues Brewery of Longmont, Colorado.

Serving type: 16-ounce can. The “CANNED ON” date printed on the bottom of the can is “01/07/15.” “DINOSAUR SANDALS!!” is also printed on the bottom.

Appearance: Pours a clean, clear medium amber color into a pint glass. A finger and a half of dense, buttery, off-white head dissipates very slowly, leaving lacing stuck to the glass, a ring around the edge, and pockets of thick foam.

Smell: Deliciously enticing and balanced with tropical fruit and citrus. Grapefruit, kiwi, orange, pineapple, lemon zest, caramel, and earthy hops. There is also a touch of pine.

Taste: Creamy and delicious. Oooh my goodness. It is bitter but not astringent, and the malt is much more prominent. The tropical fruit and citrus, though, play major roles, too. There are flavors of caramel, brown sugar, zest, earthy hops, pine, and effective amounts of grape fruit, pineapple, kiwi, and orange.

Drinkability: This is amazing stuff. Bitter but mellow, and tasty.
