Beer of the Weekend #584: New Glarus Raspberry Tart

Last Friday we made the annual visit to southeastern Wisconsin and stopped at the Roelli Cheese Haus. Cheese was procured, as was the beer of the weekend: Raspberry Tart, brewed by the New Glarus Brewing Company of New Glarus, Wisconsin.

Serving type: 750 ml bottle. No freshness date, which is probably the one thing I do not like about New Glarus. The cap was sealed with red wax.

Appearance: Poured into my New Glarus pilsner flute. (New Glarus recommends serving in a champagne flute, but I do not have one.) The color is ruddy amber. Two fingers of strawberry-colored foam leaves a narrow ring around the edge and a concentration of foam in the center.

Smell: Raspberry! The smell is very tart and juice-like. There is a little apple present as well, and there is a tinge of vinegar.

Taste: Very fruity and tart, but oh so delicious. Lots of raspberry, of course. There are also flavors of apple, maybe cherry, and perhaps some blackberry. There is also a very slight hint of vinegar.

Drinkability: Daaaaaaaamn this is good stuff! This is another winner from New Glarus, and I am kicking myself for not grabbing another bottle.

Fun facts about Raspberry Tart:

-Style: New Glarus calls it “Wisconsin Framboise Ale.”

-Price: I forgot to grab the receipt but I believe it was around $9.39/bottle at the Roelli Cheese Haus on Wisconsin State Route 11 in Shullsburg, Wisconsin.

-Alcohol content: 4 percent ABV.

-Food pairings: The beer’s webpage has that covered.

The Quiet Man’s grade: A+.
