The Gems of Sharpless: September 4, 2013
There was slim pickin’s today at Sharpless. But, as always, there were a couple gems.
-Comfortable, but ugly. The picture does not do the chair justice, though, because it looked like a bear cub.
-I assume this is a photo of Chicago sometime in the forties. That is just a guess. In the background, behind the trees and in front of the buildings just right of center, is a giant PBR sign.
-This was the inside front cover of the 1954 Parnell High School yearbook. The same picture appears in the inside back cover and I bet it is of the gym. It’s not the most aesthetically pleasing structure, but whatever.
-There were two or three whole boxes full of Avon aftershave and fragrance bottles, including this one that came in the shape of a calculator.
-At first I thought these were for people who wanted to make canary calls, but I realized they are for canaries themselves.
-Oh boy! The fun new game all the kids are playing!
-I am not exactly sure what this is from but I thought it was interesting.
-So the best thing about this fashion magazine from the early-seventies was…
-…the page on “folklore fashions.” Traditional, funny, and sexy at the same time.
-Big Miller High Life ad. I am pretty sure Illinois has two or three former governor’s pressing license plates in prison.
-The most amazing thing about today was the empty middle yard, which is usually filled with lawn mowers and oversized whatnot. There was nothing today. Anything worth the bother was placed in the eastern building.
