Bracketology 2013: post-championship
Blogging took the rumble seat while I was in San Francisco. And, to make matters worse, I was bitten by a flu bug when I returned and have been laid-up ever since. I seem to be improving, though, so I have decided to post my final brackets — neither of which are worthy of any spotlight.
Bracket #1
Oh, how deceptive that promising “First Round” can be. Despite that ill-fated Georgetown pick, I looked to be in good shape. The Third Round hurt but I still picked half of the Sweet Sixteen. After that, it did not go so well: only three of the eight advanced, costing me major points in the pool. After that, I am sure I was out of contention.
Interestingly, my dad was leading the pool after the Third Round. He picked well…until the Sweet Sixteen. Then it all fell apart for him, too.
Bracket #2
#2 never had a chance. It was a disaster from the start. It took the brunt of my bad “First Round” flips, thankfully. It’s only consolation: the fact I forgot to cross out Ohio State as the champions. Oops.
So how did my two bracket approach work? Not as well as I thought it would. When it became clear that #1 was my favorite, quite a bit of bias crept in. After a certain point I was cheering against my #2 picks. Not good.
But I will say two brackets did double the fun — at least at first. I think I will do it again next year. The pool was up to $540 this year, so I think the $10 investment would be worth it once again.
