The Novel Diary: Week 69

Word count: 4,651 (Chapter 6 (2.0)); 49,011 (total).

Do you know what I could and should be doing right now? Enjoying the Braves-Cubs game at Wrigley. Instead I am sitting at my computer, listening to the game on the radio in IC.

It is a long story but I will try to make it short.

My cousin’s husband has Cubs season tickets. My mom is a Dodgers fan and my dad is a Braves fan, so my cousin gave them tickets for yesterday’s game against the Dodgers and tonight’s game against the Braves. They invited me to tag along and I bought myself a ticket for each game. Ah — nothing like taking in a couple ball games at historic Wrigley Field.

Yesterday’s game was delayed for three hours by rain. It was raining when we arrived and we sat (dry under the upper deck) and watched water collect on the tarp covering the infield. The grounds crew uncovered the infield once, then covered it again before a vicious downpour. I drank a 16-ounce PBR (poured into a plastic cup) for $7.25 and ate a $4 bag of peanuts. The game started at 4 pm and we left a little more than an hour later to catch the train back to my cousin’s place in the suburbs.

Showers were forecast for today’s game so we decided to hit Wrigleyville for lunch and then split. Once we made that decision I was sure the game would go off without issue. And, except for some fog, it has. It is just my luck.

However, the good news is I picked up an authentic Goose Island “Willi” glass and finished Chapter 6 (2.0) last Thursday night. The bad news is I wasted $40 or so and probably will not start Chapter 7 (2.0) until next Sunday. I have some upcoming events and will not be able to dedicate any time for novel writing — which has been the story of the novel thus far.

Cubs win, 5-1.
