Iowa 71, Drake 67
You know what’s sad? The fact that nobody but my dad would go to the Drake-Iowa game with me tonight.
Well, only one person said it was because the team “sucks” — “Why would I want to go see that?” (though, ironically, he did watch the game on TV) — but it was still sad. Regardless, though, it was great going to a game with my old man.
It ended up being a well-fought win for the Hawks, and I walked out of Carver a happy man. The win was all the more pleasing because of all the Drake fans at the game. For some reason, I have never felt more hostility for an opposing team’s supporters than I did last night. Maybe it was because Drake’s an in-state rival, and the Hawks were trying to avoid being swept by all three in-state teams for the first time ever. Or maybe it was because of the annoying Drake fans sitting in the front row next to the pep band. For a second I wondered if they were retarded, or maybe just really tanked. With blue and white pom-poms, they countered the pep band and Hawkeye dance team by dancing around and making asses of themselves. Even from the top row of section D (where my dad and I decided to sit), they were really pissing me off. Had I been sitting near them, I probably would have thrown something. Nobody rolls into Carver and gets away with that shit.
