"Do that thing I like!"

Holy shit. Max Kellerman.

It’s midnight on the west coast. I’m watching the post-match interviews of a brutal boxing match on HBO. I don’t know where the fight was, but it must be late there.

But here’s what I’m getting at: Max Kellerman. I haven’t seen him in years, and here he is interviewing both boxers and delivering his take on the fight.

For those of you who don’t know, Kellerman used to be the studio host for “Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday/Whateverday Night Fights” on ESPN. He held down the fort in Bristol while Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas provided ringside commentary. Kellerman was also the first host of “Around the Horn.” But, in 2004, ESPN decided he wasn’t a good fit for their audience, so they cut him. He was then hired by Fox Sports Net (which is such a shitty network they use outdated and used equipment from ESPN). Kellerman’s stay at FSN was lackluster. To tell you the truth I never watched much of his shows on Fox. They were all cancelled (a fate shared by all FSN shows after a certain point) and I hadn’t seen him since.

Until tonight.

I miss Kellerman. I think he’s still the better “Around the Horn” host. He was quirky and quick spoken. During every Friday show they ran a clip from BeyoncĂ©’s “Crazy in Love” video. Before cutting to commercial, as BeyoncĂ© was in full ass shaking mode, Kellerman shouted, “Do that thing I like!” It was perfect.

There’s a reason I wrote this post, but I’m not sure what it is yet.

“Rome” is on, and that means it’s time to change the channel.
