Beer of the Weekend #774: Padawan Lager

BotW’s Summer of the Growler begins with a hyper-local brew: Padawan Lager, brewed by the Iowa City Brewlab of Iowa City, Iowa.

This is likely the first BotW pic where a filled glass has not been accompanied by a bottle or can. It is also the first time I have reviewed a beer brewed in Iowa City. Woo hoo!

The color is lightly hazy gold. A finger of bubble-spotted, eggshell-colored, shiny head dissipates slowly. The aroma is light and fruity at first with a hint of strawberry. Pale malt and a touch of spice take over as the beer warms. The flavor is bold and spicy with a nice bite, which I was not expecting from the aroma. Pale malt is noticeable on the front, but it is immediately run over by spice, which seems like rye, and a pleasing floral hop bitterness. The light fruit character from the aroma is also present. The bitterness works the taste buds and lingers for a short time after each sip. It is tasty and easy drinking.
